In producing marketing materials for your business, deciding on the best material to use to promote your products or services while sticking within your budget is a critical and at times taxing task. While the right material can work in drawing in customers and keeping the existing ones, the wrong material can be a drag in your marketing campaign.

Typically, the first thing that comes to mind when we say marketing materials are business cards. That’s expected as these cards are the universally accepted means of sharing and exchanging contact details. After your first meeting with a potential customer, your business card will serve as your representative after you have parted ways. Your card let you leave a tactile impression on your prospects that will help encourage them to contact you whenever they need your products or services.

But often, in the rush and curiosity to create the best business card, there are some mistakes that you are bound to commit. What mistakes are we talking about here? Here are some of them:

1. Using low quality paper in your card. In the desire to save on money, you are tempted to use low quality paper on your cards. This is a bad practice as a low quality paper reflects on your image. From the look and feel of the card itself, you are already sending an unreliable and low quality impression. You can never expect people to trust you when this is the image that you project.

2. Using too many colors. Color is great for your business card, but too much of it is not cool. Too many colors will only make your card look cluttered and confusing. Instead giving your card a lively and bright look, the colors will only dampen its look. So, just choose the right colors and as much as possible use only one or two colors.

3. Excessively unique business cards. There’s nothing wrong with unique cards. But unless the card is comfortable to handle and deliver your message clearly, it’s best to stick with the custom design. If you are a highly creative person, you can run away with distinctly designed card, but if you are nothing close to an artistic person, then stay away from being too creative in your cards.

4. Too huge logo. In business, if your business is big, it doesn’t mean that your logo should be huge as well. Keep in mind that your business card only has a small space to accommodate all your details, images, and logo. So, just go for a small but unique logo that will be easily remembered by people.

5. Unmatched design and logo. It’s easy to get swayed with eye-catching business card templates that don’t fit with your logo. It’s bad practice to get carried away with the template you saw or the design a friend of your used. As much as possible, create a design that fits with your logo. Remember that you want to create brand awareness and keep your card memorable. So choose your business card design carefully.

6. Using too big or too small fonts. Readability is important in your business card. Using too huge or too small font will only make your card look unorganized and baffling. If possible use only one size of font that is readable to people of all ages.
